Tewkesbury Abbey tower vault. .c.1320-40

One of many fabulous bosses in the largely 12th century abbey. The present spectacular lierne vault, dating back to 1320-40, replaced an earlier wooden ceiling and one can spend hours wandering around the abbey gazing upwards, constantly discovering something new.The troll is just one of many such pieces of carving to be found there.
