St.Nicholas
St Nicolas was started in 1988 whilst on travels in Thailand. Nicola Barry came across a Christian Organisation who had set up a cottage industry to help women work at home to supplement their incomes.These women live in the remote regions of Thailand where the only work available to them is in the large factories miles from their homes. Giving them the opportunity to make the decorations at home enables these women to look after their families and have a steady income that will help with family expenses such as schooling and medical expenses.
In 1999 they expanded their range to include products from India.
The decorations from India incorporate the traditional technique of Zari embroidery. This is an established and respected craft in India handed down from generation to generation of males within a family.
All these decorations are handmade.
