This hand painted glass reproduction of St. Martin cutting his cloak to give to the beggar is taken from the wonderful window of St. Martin's, Brampton. St. Martin's was designed and built by the pre-Raphaelite, Philip Webb, under the auspices of George Howard, the Earl of Carlisle in the late 1800s. George Howard himself was a pre-Raphaelite artist and was visited at his home at Naworth Castle by many of the pre-Raphaelite artists. St. Martin's was not only built by an outstanding architect, but most of the stained glass was designed by Edward Burne-Jones and executed by the William Morris studio, including the St. Martin we show here.
